Overview
Less than an hours drive from Lisbon International Airport along the
new A8 motorway, the little known Silver Coast or Costa de Prata is
slowly opening its doors to the outside world. Here you’ll discover
beautiful fine sanded beaches and deep blue sea, gentle rolling hills
and a lagoon fringed with pine trees, an enchanted island with an
ancient fortress, historical monuments and fascinating museums and a
wonderfully diverse gastronomy with mouthwatering fish and shellfish
dishes.
The tranquil Silver Coast really does offer you
the best of every world. A life of rural calm amid sleepy towns,
villages and beautiful countryside, along with access to all the modern
facilities of transport, healthcare, education and leisure. There are
many hotels with superb facilities and a variety of restaurants, bars
and lively venues. You can enjoy entertainments and events throughout
the year: concerts, fairs, festivals, art exhibitions and the Torres
carnival.
For golfers, the region is the new
destination in Portugal with 18-hole courses at Praia d’el Rey and Rio
Maior and 9-hole courses at Consolação and Porto Novo. You can also try
your hand at fishing and scuba-diving, surfing, sailing, rowing and
windsurfing, paragliding, hang-gliding and horse riding. And don’t
forget the wonderful cuisine or the local wines from one of the largest
wine growing areas in Portugal.
