Overview
Cyprus has a wonderful variety of sleepy villages and fascinating
towns each with something very different to offer. Protoras is a jetset
beach resort on the south-east coast, just 45 minutes drive from
Larnaca international airport. Colonial-style Larnaca itself has an
impressive palm-lined promenade joining a modern yacht marina at one
end with an ancient medieval fortress at the other.
Cosmopolitan
Limassol is the island’s main port, and you’ll see luxury cruise liners
en route to the Greek islands and other exotic destinations. While the
world famous resort of Ayia Napa is renowned for its white sandy
beaches, fun-filled theme parks, lively clubs and bars.
If
you prefer somewhere a little quieter, there’s Paphos which was the
Roman capital of Cyprus and is now listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage
Site. And a stone’s throw from the birthplace of Aphrodite, the
legendary Goddess of Love, is the village of Pissouri perched on top of
a hill with a panoramic view of the bay enclosed by Akrotiri Aspro.
Golfers
are more than catered for in the west with three challenging courses
perfect for all-year-round golf. There’s the Tsada Golf Course, set in
the grounds of a 12th century monastery in the foothills of the Troodos
mountains. East of Paphos and lying in a scenic valley, you’ll find the
aptly-named Secret Valley Golf Club. And there’s an outstanding course
at Aphrodite Hills, carved out of a forest of carob and olive trees on
two high plateaux overlooking the Mediterranean.
